Rolex may be known to most for their superlative chronometers, tough-as-nails sports watches and iconic chronographs - but to say that's all they do would be missing a large part of their important story.
The Cellini collection best exhibits Rolex's commitment to perfection not only for construction but for style and design that exists beyond the scope of their better-known Professional collection.
The model offered here, known simply as a Cellini Prince, is finished in white gold and features a rectangular 28mm x 46mm case - very much reminiscent of the Prince watches from a century ago. It also offers a segmented 'exotic' dial featuring Art Deco styling with subsidiary seconds in the 6:00 position, and a sapphire display caseback - revealing Rolex's beautifully finished Calibre 7040-4 manually-winding movement. Fitted to a black crocodile leather strap with a matching signed white gold deployant clasp, this 'Doctors' style watch remains in excellent condition throughout.
While they have played second-string to steel sports models in recent history, we've seen demand for Cellini models increasing dramatically in the past year. As tastes change and trends evolve, we're confident that we'll be seeing an even greater desire for smaller, thinner, more elegant and artistic timepieces in the coming years.
As this occurs, its a safe bet that demand for these under-sung superlative offerings from Rolex will be at the forefront of the shift.
